Day 01
Welcome to Korea
Morning: Your South Korea STEM School Trip starts today! Step off the plane at Seoul’s Incheon Airport and catch your first glimpses of South Korea on the coach to your accommodation. Afternoon: Listen to a trip briefing led by your guide – this will give you all the information you need to have a safe and smooth adventure through Korea. Evening: Once you’ve settled in, head to the observation deck of Seoul’s second-highest point, the N Seoul Tower. Soak in the incredible views over the metropolis and get ready for the Learning Adventure that awaits.
Day 02
Tech & Business
Morning: Cross the river to the Gangnam District – you might recognise the name from the famous ‘Gangnam Style’ song! Visit the Samsung D’light, an exhibition space that showcases the latest technology from the electronics giant. Be sure to head to the nearby media poles near Gangnam Station to take photos to send to your friends and family back home. Afternoon: Pay a visit to Gyeongbokgung Palace, the largest and most beautiful Royal Palace built by the Joseon Dynasty. Explore the exquisite gardens and learn about its history before walking up the hill to Bukchon Hanok Village. A ‘hanok’ is a traditional Korean house.
Day 03
STEM School Visit & Coding
Morning: Time to see what local life in South Korea is like! Today, you have the chance to make friends with students from a local high school. The schedule for the day will be fully tailored, but it usually involves a school tour, joining in with STEM lessons, lunch and a series of activities designed to promote meaningful cross-cultural interaction. Afternoon: Coding is viewed by many young South Koreans as an increasingly important skill in an increasingly digitalized age. Concentrate hard at a coding class at Gangnam District’s W-Coding Centre. Evening: The evening means show time. Tonight, you’ll watch a hugely popular show called Nanta, a non-verbal comedy show, involving acrobatics, magic and of course a dose of audience participation.
Day 04
Telecom & Internet
South Korea boasts the world’s fastest average data transfer rate for internet access by end users. Learn how the pros do It on a visit to one of Seoul’s telecom and internet providers. Tour the office, make notes at a presentation and ask your burning questions in a Q&A session. (Exact activities and schedules vary depending on company.) Afternoon: You’ve seen where Korean royalty lived, now it’s your chance to see how they ate! Indulge at a specialist restaurant – their dishes are based on traditional royal recipes. Evening: K-pop’s taking the West by storm, with BTS hitting the top spot in the British album charts. A visit to the SM Town Coex Artium gives students the chance to check out K-pop recording studios and see hologram performances from the genre’s megastars.
Day 05
Visit The DMZ
Today, you’re off to the DMZ, the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea. Take in views across the zone from the Dora Observatory and investigate the infiltration tunnel under the DMZ built by the North Koreans. Then, pay a visit to Panmunjeom, the village just North of the de facto border, where the armistice agreement that paused the Korean War was signed. Evening: After a busy day exploring, treat your taste buds to South Korean pizza. Whilst there are more standard options, we recommend eating like the locals. It’s not quite the same as back home. Expect the unexpected: figs, snails, cream cheese… You’ve been warned!
Day 06
Interactive Science
Morning: Head for the Gwacheon National Science Museum, a landmark facility representing Korea’s advanced science and technology capabilities. Over 50% of the exhibition items are interactive, allowing you to jump in and experience science first-hand. Afternoon: Opened in 1905, the area surrounding the Dongdaemun Gate is a local landmark and a famous shopping district. Pick your way through the traditional markets and shopping malls. Get your last-minute souvenirs here! Evening: It’s your last night. Embark on a scenic cruise down the Han River to the Banpo Bridge, a spectacular sight with its rainbow fountains.
Day 07
Return Home
Transfer to Incheon airport by coach. It might be home time, but it’s not over. Seoul’s advanced STEM world will follow you back to the classroom…and beyond!
