Day 01
Welcome to China!
Shanghai’s Glitz and Glamour Afternoon Shake hands with one of the world’s most developed cities as you explore three of its most famous areas, People’s Square, Nanjing Road and The Bund. Nanjing Road is the world’s longest shopping district, at 5.5km long and with over 1 million visitors a day! That’s 1/8 of London, 1/5 of Sydney or 1/9 of New York. Evening After a trip briefing, end the day with a delicious welcome dinner.
Day 02
Sustainability & Business
Sustainable Company Visit Morning On your first morning in Shanghai, you’re learning about sustainability in business. Visit Canature, a water recycling company, who’ve worked with some big names. We’re talking the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the 14th World Swimming Championship, and plenty of schools and malls. Look around their office, take a workshop and get inspired by their recycling products. Afternoon After lunch, tour Shanghai’s fancy financial district, Lujiazui, and head to the top of the Shanghai Tower for a view of the city that you’ve spent the day exploring. Evening In the evening, take advantage of the beautiful night lights of the city with an evening cruise on the Huangpu River.
Day 03
Beijing, Business, & Culture
Business, Bullet Train, Beijing Morning This is your last day in Shanghai – so make it count. Head to WeWork, a shared office area, to see how this modern company thrives. Forget the corporate suits you usually associate with success – this is the new world of Chinese business. Listen to a guest speaker talk about inventions for Chinese people from an international perspective. Then it’s your turn to quiz them – ask questions, make notes and get motivated. Afternoon Wave goodbye to Shanghai and hop on a bullet train to Beijing (4.5 hours). This is the world’s longest high-speed railway network and the most extensively used. China’s HSR accounts for 2/3 of the world’s total high-speed railway networks. Impressive!
Day 04
History in Beijing
Beijing Imperial History Morning China is the world’s fastest growing economy. This is your chance to see what it’s all about. Visit a successful Chinese company and tour their offices. Receive a lecture about business in China and take the opportunity to ask questions. Afternoon In the afternoon, learn about China’s fascinating imperial history at Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. The Forbidden City is the world’s largest imperial palace and has been the home of 24 emperors! Stroll out to the former Imperial gardens, Jingshan Park, for spectacular panoramic views of Beijing. Evening Finish the day with a delicious Peking roast duck dinner – Peking is the romanized name for Beijing.
Day 05
The Great Wall of China
The Great Wall, minus the crowds Morning Make your way to the outskirts of the city and take a 2-3-hour hike to a secluded and fantastically beautiful section of the Great Wall. This is one of the most famous sites in the world – but we know China’s ins and outs, so today we’re sidestepping the big tourist crowds. Travel to the outskirts of the city and hike to a secluded and incredibly beautiful section of the Great Wall, avoiding the crowds. The Great Wall of China stands as a testament to human ingenuity and perseverance, stretching majestically across mountains, valleys, and breathtaking landscapes. Location: Badaling Ancient Great Wall or similar Afternoon In the late afternoon, visit Zhongguancun Software Park incubator, specifically designed as a place where small enterprises can grow. Find out about some of the companies there, get to know their products, then participate in a Q&A.
Day 06
Career in China
Work and Study in Beijing Morning Your week in China is almost over – so pack in as much as you can today! Start with the US Embassy or the British Chamber of Commerce to learn more about business (dependent on availability). Afternoon Once you’ve refueled at lunch, head for the Business Department of Beijing Foreign Studies University. Considering studying abroad? Listen up as you take a tour of the university, then hear a business lecture and interact with students. Evening You’ve found out what it’s like to study in China, now discover what it’s like for an international company to do business in China. You’ll be hearing from an expert guest speaker – prep some questions on your business ideas for the Q&A session.
